Ranger’s Sacrifice: Choosing Love Even When It’s Hard

I was working on final (hopefully!) revisions to Ranger’s Sacrifice, and I just… well, I got all swoony (is that a word?)!

I fell for these guys (Cory and Chase) in Ranger’s Destiny, but I didn’t know them very well yet. It was infatuation. Now… well, now I think it’s love! 🙂

That’s one of the themes of Ranger’s Sacrifice – that falling in love is “easy” compared to staying in love. Sometimes you’ve just got to make loving someone a conscious choice. I think you’ll find lots of reasons to root for Maddy and Ella to love their Rangers with everything they’ve got.

The below scene is fairly early in the book, after Cory has made a significant step in his relationship with Maddy. Sometimes the best gifts are gifts of self!

Ranger’s Sacrifice is available for pre-order on Kindle and Kobo (Nook and Apple users, look for it on April 2).

And, for a limited time, Ranger’s Destiny is just 99 cents! If you don’t have it yet, get it now: Kindle  / Nook iBookstore / Kobo

There was a knock on Cory’s door, and he rose from where he’d been sorting his gear. He didn’t think any of the guys knew where his new place was yet, so who could that be?

He looked through the peephole.

Maddy? What was she doing here?

He opened the door. “Hey,” he said. “Aren’t you supposed to be at work?”

He stepped back and she moved forward, grabbing a fistful of his T-shirt and bringing her mouth to his in a kiss that had his body responding immediately.

“I’m on lunch break.” She was a little breathless herself. “I just came to thank you for the gift.”

“What gift?”

“The letter.”

“Ah,” he said. “That was nothing.”

“It was a gift of yourself,” she said. “And now I want to give you a gift.”

“It was enough of a gift that you were waiting for me when I got back.”

Where did that come from?

Her eyes widened, but she didn’t say anything. Instead she pushed him against the wall, then backed up. Her fingers went to the top button of her shirt. It was a simple short-sleeve western style plaid shirt in shades of blue and green. But around her neck was a neat black bow.

He raised an eyebrow as she undid the second button.

At the third button, a thin strap appeared, leading across the tops of her breasts, and his pulse quickened. What did she have on under there?

She held the sides of the shirt together as she undid the next couple buttons. He loved to watch her, and he couldn’t tear his eyes away. “You tease,” he murmured.

Her gaze was fastened to his face as she undid the final buttons, when slowly let the shirt fall.

He stared. Two thin straps ran across the top of each breast, coming together in the center with a small purple bow: an open bra that framed her ample breasts and full nipples. More than that; the bottom of the bra had extra support, pushing her breasts up and toward him.

His cock twitched. If this was the result of sharing that letter, maybe he would do that more often…

Finally he found his voice. “Wow.” His hands reached out, one going around her waist to pull her closer. With the other he traced one finger along the lace of the bra where it held the weight of her breasts.

She shivered. “You like your gift?” She whispered.

“Do I…” He ran his thumb over the nipple, delighting in how it had pebbled already. “Oh Maddy. I love it when you get feisty.” He closed his mouth over her nipple…
